2027 is the Year of the Goat, or more precisely the Fire Goat, 丁未 (dīng wèi). It's also called the Year of the Sheep or the Ram: the Chinese sign 羊 gets translated in different ways, but it's one animal. 1 2027: which animal and which element
Every year in the Chinese calendar is a pair of characters: a heavenly stem and an earthly branch. In 2027 the stem is 丁 (dīng), Yin Fire, and the branch is 未 (wèi), the Goat. Hence the name: Fire Goat. Popular calendars call it the Red Goat, because red is the color of Fire. The Goat itself belongs to Earth, the dry Earth of late summer, and it holds two more characters inside: Fire 丁 and Wood 乙. That makes the year warm and slow: the Fire doesn't explode, it warms the Earth.
The last Fire Goat year was 1967, and the next will be 2087: the pair 丁未 comes back once every sixty years. Goat years with other elements: 1955 (Wood), 1979 (Earth), 1991 (Metal), 2003 (Water), 2015 (Wood again).
2 When the Year of the Goat begins
There are two dates, and both are correct, for different systems.
- February 6, 2027 is Chinese New Year. It's set by the Moon, and it starts the Year of the Goat in the festive calendar and in most horoscopes.
- February 4, 2027 is 立春 (lì chūn, "Start of Spring"). From this seasonal node the year 丁未 begins in BaZi charts. It also ends at 立春, on February 4, 2028.
For a birth chart the difference matters. A child born on February 5, 2027, is still a Horse by the festive calendar but already a Goat in BaZi. The same principle works for any year: for people born in January and early February, the Year Pillar in the chart often doesn't match the sign from the horoscope. 3 2027 after 2026: a candle instead of the sun
The year 2026, 丙午, is Yang Fire on the Horse, fire on fire: speed, visibility, sharp turns. 2027 has the same color but a different temperament. The classics compare Yin Fire 丁 to a candle: it doesn't shine for everyone, it lights one particular task. The Goat's Earth absorbs this fire, and instead of flashes you get accumulation. It's a good year for finishing what you started and consolidating the results of 2026, and a worse one for starting from scratch, loudly and all at once. 4 The 2027 forecast by zodiac sign
The sign everyone knows is the branch of the Year Pillar of birth. For 2027 what matters is how that branch relates to the year's branch 未. Some signs have a direct link (a combination, a clash or a punishment); others have none, and the year reaches them through the elements. Each sign has its own article.

7 Months worth watching
BaZi months are solar, and each has its own pillar. In 2027 three points stand out. May and June are the Snake and Horse months, the "hottest" stretch: the month's Fire amplifies the year's Fire, and the Horse month also combines with the Goat. July is the Goat month: its pillar repeats the year, and all the themes of 2027 sound louder; for people with the Ox in their chart, the clash 丑未沖 is strongest here.
