In the classical mechanics of branches, the Snake is the place where Metal is born. Inside 巳 lie three hidden stems: 丙 (Yang Fire), 庚 (Yang Metal) and 戊 (Yang Earth). It is in 巳 that, by the classics, the life of the Metal element begins (長生, cháng shēng, the "birth" phase), that very Metal which Chinese tradition links with the coin, the ingot, the tool and precise calculation. That is why the financial theme for people born in a Snake year often sounds sharper than usual: money becomes a craft.
The year 丁未 treats this Metal as a blank, not as a finished article, because there is so much Fire in it. What comes out of that depends on your 日主 (rì zhǔ, Day Master), on the months and on how ready you are to work with heat. 1 Fire against Metal: how the year reads
The five elements have a controlling cycle: Fire melts Metal. In 2027 there is Fire everywhere: the year stem 丁 (Yin Fire, a candle), the branch 未 with its hidden 丁, the seasonal gathering 巳午未 in June, the Snake's own branch with its 丙. For the Snake this means that the money element 庚 finds itself surrounded by heat. To melt is to change form. Metal does not vanish but takes a new shape: money goes from "lying" to "working."
The practical sense is this: the year suits turning a resource into a tool, whether that means buying equipment, investing in training, rebuilding a product or changing the terms of work. It suits sitting on what you already have much less. And if your chart already has too much Fire, the "smelter" effect can feel like overheating: money leaves faster than it arrives, and decisions are made in the heat of the moment.

There is a special group: the Day Masters 庚 and 辛. For them Metal is themselves, and they live through the 2027 smelter personally: pressure of deadlines, hard terms, the need to transform. The Day Masters 丙 and 丁 are in a different position: for them Metal is wealth, and the Fire that can melt it is their own energy. What matters for them is not to spend yourself faster than you earn. Read as a whole, the table gives the Snake two money peaks in 2027, June and September, and three months that call for attention: February, August and November. October is not linked with the Snake, but its branch 戌 makes a 破 with the year's 未 and two thirds of the 丑戌未 punishment (無恩之刑, the ungrateful punishment); for those with the Ox 丑 in the chart it completes. In money terms this is usually belated bills, disputes over who helped whom, and payments forgotten over the summer. December 壬子 is also not linked with the Snake, but makes a 子未害 with the year: small misunderstandings with documents and transfers at the end of the year. Nothing dramatic, but in these months it is useful to keep statements and contracts at hand.
4 June: what to do in the smelter
The month 丙午 (June 6 to July 6) closes the 三會 and, together with the year's 未, also makes a 午未合. Fire is at its maximum here, and so financial decisions speed up. Typical June scenarios: an impulsive purchase that you "have wanted for ages," a quick deal that looks profitable, an urgent investment in an acquaintance, rising spending on holidays and trips. This is neither a ban nor a prediction, just a description of how Fire in excess feels.
A calm way to get through June without consequences: introduce a twenty-four-hour rule for any purchase above a set sum, do not sign long-term obligations in the first week of the month, and leave the decision on large investments for July, when the month 丁未 cools the situation. If your Day Master fears Fire, which means 庚 or 辛, build into June a reserve of strength and time, not only money.
Technically the June gathering is complete only when 巳 is in your chart. For Snakes by birth year it stands in the year pillar, so the 巳午未 triple closes for everyone reading this article about themselves. But a monthly gathering lives exactly a month, and some schools consider that it becomes a "stream of fire" only with the support of Fire in the stems of the chart. If your stems are cold, June feels like a hot, fussy month and not like a financial turning point.
How can you tell whether the June "smelter" concerns you in particular? Look at the ratio of Fire to Water in your chart. If there is a lot of Fire and almost no Water, the heat of the month is felt physically: poor sleep, irritability, a wish to buy or finish something urgently. If Water is strong in the chart, June turns instead into a working sprint: there is more energy, and the ways to spend it are clearer. 5 September: the gathering of Metal
The month 己酉 (September 8 to October 7) brings the half union 巳酉 from the triple 巳酉丑 (金局, jīn jú, the Metal frame). Metal gathers: the Snake and the Rooster give half of the union, and it becomes full only if your chart has the Ox 丑. In practice this is the best month of the year for the Snake's money calculations: fixing terms, signing contracts on favorable grounds, closing cash gaps, recalculating the budget. The General Star (將星, jiàng xīng) for the Snake also stands on 酉, and in September you have a better chance of being heard in negotiations.
For the Day Masters for whom Metal is wealth (丙 and 丁), September works directly. For those for whom Metal is pressure (甲 and 乙), it is a month of a clear schedule and discipline; the result appears if you do not slide into resistance.
Before September comes August, and for money it is the trickiest month of the year. The branch 申 gives the Snake three links at once: the union 巳申 (六合), the punishment from the 寅巳申 set (恃勢之刑, the punishment of power) and a 破. In the language of contracts, that is an attractive offer with a strong party that dictates the terms: an investor, a large client, an employer with a hard contract. The deal can be a good one, but it has to be read with a pencil: penalties, deadlines, the right of unilateral termination. August is convenient for negotiations, and it is sensible to move the final signature to September, when 巳酉 brings sobriety.
6 Three stems inside the Snake and their relation to money
Inside 巳 lie three "wallets." 丙 is Yang Fire, income from visibility: publicity, sales, a personal brand, the ability to show a result. 庚 is Yang Metal, income from a tool and precision: craft, finance, law, engineering, everything where clean work is valued. 戊 is Yang Earth, income from reliability: real estate, long-term contracts, savings. In an ordinary year the Snake lives on whichever stem is better supported by the rest of the chart. In 2027 Fire pushes 丙 forward, and so for many Snakes it is the "visible" income that is most tangible. In autumn the voice passes to 庚.

7 Stars that touch money
For 巳 three points matter in the money theme. The General Star 將星 stands on 酉: September, a leadership role, a voice in negotiations. The Traveling Horse 驛馬 (yì mǎ) stands on 亥: November, the road, a change of place and of income source; the 巳亥冲 is here too, so the movement will be abrupt. The Canopy 華蓋 (huá gài) stands on 丑: January 2028, a withdrawal into study and reflection; the month suits planning the next year, but not risky operations. The stem of the birth year gives one more layer. Snakes are born in the years 乙巳 (1965, 2025), 丁巳 (1977), 己巳 (1989), 辛巳 (2001) and 癸巳 (1953, 2013). In 辛巳 the Metal 辛 is under the Fire 丁, and the 2027 smelter touches you directly: more often pressure of deadlines and terms. In 癸巳 the Water 癸 collides with 丁 in a stem clash: unpredictable income, sharp turns. In 乙巳 Wood feeds Fire and gives it its strength: you invest a lot. If you are looking for a new job, November with the Traveling Horse brings movement, but prepare the ground in summer.
Your own business
A Snake entrepreneur in 2027 gets the acceleration of summer and the assessment of autumn. A good scheme: test hypotheses in April–June, sum up in July, consolidate the strong options in September, restructure in November. The risk of the year is that in June you want to scale something not yet proven. Checking with time is cheaper here.
An example from typical practice: the owner of a small bakery gets an order for a large corporate event in June and immediately decides to take a second premises. In summer the demand seems confirmed; in September it turns out to have been a one-off surge. The same step, postponed until the September figures, would have avoided a lease that then takes half a year to work off.
Savings and large purchases
BaZi gives no investment advice. What can honestly be said: in the hottest month decisions are made faster than they should be; in the most "metallic" one, more precisely. If you have a big purchase, whether housing, a car or equipment, it is sensible to plan the final decision for September, after checking all the figures, and not to tie it to a November move.
9 Typical mistakes and a calendar of decisions
- Expecting the year to bring money by itself. There is no pairwise link between 巳 and 未: support, if there is any, comes through the elements and the months.
- Scaling in June. Fire raises confidence faster than the result is confirmed.
- Signing in August without reading. 巳申 gives a strong union, but with conditions and hidden clauses.
- Changing everything at once in November. The 巳亥冲 gives strength but not direction.
- Measuring yourself against a neighbor. Income is built from the Day Master and the whole chart, not from a shared sign.
