Oxen do not like to sort out relationships. They put up with things, stay silent, hope it will resolve itself, and accumulate. For years, calmly, without drama. And then a moment comes when the question has been asked and it is no longer possible to hide that the answer has long been there.

For the Ox 丑 that moment can be the year 2027. It is called 丁未, the year's branch 未 stands directly opposite your 丑, and between them acts a 沖 (chōng), a clash, the most direct of the branch interactions. If your chart also has a Dog 戌 nearby, a 三刑 (sān xíng) is added: the triple punishment 丑戌未. It sounds alarming. But a clash in BaZi is movement, not a sentence, and in love it often means: it is time to call things by their names.

This article is about what exactly in matters of the heart the year "opens up" for the Ox, in which months it is sharpest, and how to work with it. The sign as a whole is in the Ox in 2027, and the overview of love for all signs is in the forecast "Love and relationships in 2027".

丑未
Chou Wei · the Ox and the Goat in matters of the heart
chǒu wèi · 丑未沖, the "clash" of two storehouses

1 What collides: two storehouses and their contents

The Ox 丑 and the Goat 未 are both storehouse signs (庫, kù). Inside the Ox lie three hidden stems: 己 (Yin Earth), 癸 (Yin Water) and 辛 (Yin Metal); it is the storehouse of Metal. In the Goat lie 己, 丁 (Yin Fire) and 乙 (Yin Wood): the storehouse of Wood. When they collide, the contents of both start to move. For relationships this is a very vivid picture.

The Ox's Metal is principles, discipline, an inner account of "what is fair." The Water 癸 is feelings hidden deep. The Earth 己 is habit, daily life, loyalty to order. On the other side, the Goat's Wood is expectations of the future, agreements, promises of "later," and the Fire 丁 is the warmth one wants to receive. The clash looks like a conflict between the Ox's principles and the expectations of the future: "I've been putting up with this for so many years" against "you could have said so long ago."

More about storehouses is in the article on 墓庫, and about clashes in general in the piece on the 沖 clashes.

There is also a subtler detail worth knowing in advance. The strength of a clash depends not only on where 丑 stands, but on how sturdy the Day Master in your chart is. If it is strong, a 沖 is felt as a shake-up after which things become clearer: a person makes a choice and moves on. If the Day Master is weak and relies precisely on the support the year touches, the clash is felt more painfully and decisions come harder. So the same 丑未沖 for two Oxen is either "finally breathed out" or "knocked off course"; the difference is shown only by the full chart.

2 The Spouse Palace and the other addresses of 丑

The clash "arrives" in the pillar where the Ox's branch stands. For love the main address is the day branch, the Spouse Palace (配偶宮, pèi ǒu gōng). But the other pillars give it a colouring as well.

Where 丑 sitsSphereHow 丑未沖 shows in feelings
YearRelatives, circle, the family's opinionTalks about the "right" way to live, pressure from parents or from your children on your couple
MonthWork, parents, environmentWork and relationship compete for time; decisions about moving and position affect the couple
DayYou and your partnerThe sharpest: what has built up in the couple comes to the surface
HourChildren, plans, inner worldQuestions of children, the future, inheritance, joint projects

If in your chart 丑 stands in the day pillar and nearby there is nothing that softens the clash (for example a combination with 子, or with 巳 and 酉), the year feels sharper. If there are friendly branches, the clash is partly cushioned. That is exactly why different Oxen live through 2027 differently on the same sign.

It is worth saying more concretely what softens the clash. The branch 子 next to your 丑 gives the combination 子丑合 and literally "ties" the Ox, taking away some of the sharpness. The branches 巳 and 酉 form with 丑 the Metal Three Harmony 巳酉丑 and give support. But the neighbourhood of 戌, or a second 未 in the chart, on the contrary, strengthens the tension. So before trying the whole text on yourself, look at what stands beside the Ox in your chart: that changes the loudness of the year more than the fact of the 沖 itself.

3 Three scenarios: a single Ox, a couple, a marriage with history

If you are on your own for now. A year with a 沖 rarely passes quietly: it nudges you to change surroundings, circle, habitual routes. For single Oxen it may be an "unexpected acquaintance" or an "unexpectedly ended long-running affair." The main thing is not to cling to the familiar if it has not worked for a long time. If you are waiting for someone to appear without changing anything, the year may prove disappointing.

If you are in a couple. Here the 沖 acts as a "test of the seams." What held on habit weakens; what held on agreement is strengthened. Often the year brings one big conversation: about marriage, children, moving, money. If you have long had a topic that you both avoid, 2027 will most likely put it on the table.

If you have a marriage with a history behind it. The question that matters here: what in your home has long been "lying in the storehouse"? An old grievance, an unspoken request, an unresolved matter with parents. A storehouse does not break open by itself; a 沖 opens it, and then the contents have to be sorted through. Many couples later call this time "difficult but honest."

If the relationship is on pause or at a distance. A 沖 year tolerates suspension badly. Stories in the format "we're not together, but we haven't split up," "we meet once a month between cities," "we'll come back to this later" usually get a resolution one way or the other in 2027. This is not harshness of the year but its property: a 沖 does not tolerate a frozen state and pushes you to name what is really going on. For some that means moving in together, for others an honest letting go without keeping the person waiting.

A moment of recognition. You notice that the same topic comes up for the third time in a month, and in different forms: now money, now daily life, now the parents. These are not three different problems but one signal: the question has ripened, and it is better to settle it yourselves than to wait until it settles everything for you.

4 If the chart has a Dog: 丑戌未三刑

When the Dog 戌 is added to the Ox 丑 in the chart, and the year brings the Goat 未, the full trio 丑戌未 appears: a 三刑, in the classics the "ungrateful punishment" (無恩之刑, wú ēn zhī xíng). The name describes the character of the tension: someone feels their kindness is not valued and their help is taken for granted. It does not mean a "triple misfortune." It means that a cold mistrust may appear inside the couple: "you owe me," "I've done so much for you," "I'm not thanked."

The condition here is strict: the Dog must stand in your chart (in any of the four pillars) or show up in a luck pillar. If there is no Dog, one cannot speak of a full 三刑. Outside the chart, 戌 appears as a month: 庚戌, October 8 to November 6, 2027, when the trio is assembled from the month branch, your 丑 and the year's 未. That is the month to watch: tension around "debt" and "gratitude" may grow there.

More about punishments is in the article Punishments 刑. For a couple, the main idea is worth knowing: a 刑 is not about enmity but about someone feeling obliged or underrated. That can be talked about.

A practical sign that the trio has "switched on" is simple: more and more often a tally appears in speech. "I moved for you," "I carry everything," "I'm not appreciated here." This is not necessarily true of the partner; it is a signal that a feeling of an unrewarded contribution has built up. The best thing to do at such a moment is not to prove who did how much but to name what gratitude or participation is missing. The ungrateful punishment is cured not by counting but by acknowledgement.

5 The months of 2027: when it is sharper, when it is softer

PeriodPillarLink with 丑For relationships
Feb 4 – Mar 5壬寅No direct linkA calm beginning; Red Phoenix 紅鸞 for the Ox is in the branch 寅 (see below)
Mar 6 – Apr 4癸卯NoneNeutral, convenient for a frank talk without heat
Apr 5 – May 5甲辰丑辰破Small "destructions": agreements fail at the everyday level
May 6 – Jun 5乙巳巳丑, half of the Metal unionSupport and clarity; a good time for plans
Jun 6 – Jul 6丙午丑午害Quiet resentment, things left unsaid; at the same time the Ox's Peach Blossom 桃花 (午)
Jul 7 – Aug 7丁未丑未沖 at full strengthThe main month of collision: emotional conversations, abrupt decisions
Aug 8 – Sep 7戊申NoneCooling down; Heavenly Happiness 天喜 for the Ox is in the branch 申, a good time to make up
Sep 8 – Oct 7己酉酉丑, half of the Metal unionUnion with the partner is easier, agreements are clear
Oct 8 – Nov 6庚戌丑戌未三刑 (with the year)Coldness, a feeling of "owed / not valued"; the most delicate month for feelings
Nov 7 – Dec 6辛亥No direct linkDeep water: frankness, tiredness, a need for warmth
Dec 7 – Jan 5壬子子丑合A warm, allied month, a good time to make up and to agree
Jan 6 – Feb 3, 2028癸丑丑丑, doublingYour branch repeated: the results of the year, a feeling of "coming back to myself"

The sharpest months: July (the direct clash), June (the harm before it) and October to early November (the triple punishment). The most convenient for reconciliation and serious talks: May, September, December.

In practice it looks like this. A couple that has avoided the subject of moving for half a year finally breaks into the conversation in July 丁未: sharp, but afterwards it is easier because everything has been named. Another couple silently piles up small grievances in June 丙午 and arrives in July with a sense of a wall. The difference is not in the months but in whether the people talked along the way. The calendar shows where the energy is thicker; what to do with it is decided by you, not by the year's branch.

How the 丑未 clash lands on your couple

The year sign is the surface layer. Real compatibility is read from the full charts of both: five structural checks, the day branches, the elements and how 2027 lies over both charts. A Couple Compatibility Reading shows where you support each other and where the year adds friction. It has no "compatibility percentage" and describes tendencies, not events.

6 The Ox's stars: 紅鸞, 天喜, 桃花

For the Ox (the 巳酉丑 group) the love stars are counted like this:

These are windows, not events. How to read them is described in detail in the articles on Red Phoenix and Heavenly Happiness.

It is important not to confuse stars with events. Red Phoenix in February does not mean there will be a wedding in February; it means formal steps go more easily in that period if there is something to apply them to. For an Ox without a partner, a star month is a reason to be among people more often rather than wait for a miracle at home. For a couple it is a convenient window to formalise what has already ripened.

7 What the year does to the Day Master

The year's stem 丁 falls on your Day Master (日主, rì zhǔ) and turns into one of the Ten Gods. For love it looks like this:

Day Master丁 for itWhat is heard in relationships
甲傷官 Hurting OfficerBluntness, criticism; telling the truth is easier than keeping the peace
乙食神 Eating GodTenderness, care, a wish to please the partner
丙劫財 Rob WealthRivalry, jealousy, a "third" nearby
丁比肩 FriendIndependence and distance; the partner may miss you
戊正印 Direct ResourceA wish for warmth and home; care in both directions
己偏印 Indirect ResourceReserve, inner world; hard to speak about feelings
庚正官 Direct OfficerFor a woman, the husband star: serious intentions, the question of status
辛七殺 Seven KillingsFor a woman, a strong, passionate and tense influence of the partner
壬正財 Direct WealthFor a man, the wife star; 丁 combines with 壬, a pull toward certainty
癸偏財 Indirect WealthFor a man, mobile, light romances; the temptation of change

The main stem of 未, 己, adds a second voice: for 甲 it is Direct Wealth, for 乙 Indirect Wealth, for 丙 Hurting Officer, for 壬 Direct Officer, and so on. The combination of these two stems and the 丑 in your chart determines how the "clash" sounds for you personally. All the gods are described one by one in the article on the Ten Gods.

A separate word for those whose Day Master is 庚, 辛, 壬 or 癸: for them the year's stem falls straight into the "partner star" — Officer and Killings for women, Wealth for men. That makes the relationship theme more noticeable than the other spheres of the year, not necessarily happier or more anxious, but in focus. If your Day Master is of the other stems, 2027 is more of a backdrop for feelings, and its main events will unfold in another sphere: work, money or study.

8 How to act: a managed opening

If the year will open the storehouse anyway, it is better to open it yourselves. A working scheme of five steps:

  1. Name the topic. One or two questions that have long been hanging. It helps to write them down: it is easier then not to wander off.
  2. Choose a month. May, September and December suit a conversation. July and October are better not loaded with the main decisions if they can wait.
  3. Speak about your feelings, not about his or her behaviour. It is unusual for an Ox, but in a 沖 year "you always" turns into a quarrel faster than "it matters to me."
  4. Give the partner time. An answer in the first minute is seldom final. A 沖 sets everything in motion, and motion needs time.
  5. Check against the chart. Which branches stand next to 丑 in your chart, friendly or conflicting, determines the degree of sharpness.

9 Typical Ox mistakes in a 沖 year

Staying silent "on principle." Silence accumulates pressure, which later comes out all at once.

Issuing an ultimatum in July. The month 丁未 is the peak of the 沖. A decision made at the sharpest point often has to be reviewed.

Keeping a tally. "I've done so much for you" is the characteristic line of a 刑. If it sounds inside you, it is time to talk, not to wait for recognition.

Putting it down to the year. "It's just Tai Sui." The year sign is one of eight characters of a chart; reducing everything to it means missing your own part.

Not noticing tiredness. If you are worn out at work and come home empty, that is a relationship matter too: the resource for feelings does not come from nowhere.

丑未沖 does not break a couple. It opens what should have been said three years ago.

In short: for the Ox, 2027 is a year about honesty in feelings. Those who are ready to talk about what has built up usually come out of it with a sense that it has become easier to breathe. Those who stay silent also get through, but more often with a feeling that something was left unsaid. Which scenario is closer to your Ox is shown only by the full chart.

Your 2027 from your chart, not from your sign

Year Ahead Context 2027 lays 丁未 over your eight characters: which Ten God your Day Master receives, where the clash sits, which months are softer and which call for caution in matters of the heart. 10 Frequently asked questions

Will Oxen break up in 2027 because of 丑未沖?

No, a branch link does not predict a breakup. A 沖 shows a zone of movement: accumulated topics are opened up. Couples ready to discuss them usually get through the year without losses. The whole chart decides, not one sign.

What is the 三刑 丑戌未 and how does it affect love?

It is a triple "punishment" that arises when the Ox's chart contains a Dog 戌 and the year brings the Goat 未. In relationships it is tied to mistrust and a feeling of "owed / not valued." If there is no Dog in the chart, there is no full 三刑; in October 2027 (庚戌) it is assembled by the month.

Which months of 2027 are better for important conversations for the Ox?

Softest are May (乙巳), September (己酉) and December (壬子, 子丑合). Sharpest are July (丁未, 丑未沖), June (丙午, 丑午害) and October (庚戌, 三刑).

When does the Ox have the marriage star 紅鸞?

For the Ox, Red Phoenix is the branch 寅. In 2027 it is switched on by the month 壬寅, February 4 to March 5. It is a window for formal steps, not a guarantee of an event.

Is the year sign enough to understand my relationships in 2027?

No. The year sign is one of the eight parts of a chart. The Spouse Palace is the day branch, and its link with the year matters more. You can calculate your chart from date, time and place of birth for free on the free chart page.
