"Will I have money this year?" is the question people ask most often, and the answer given by the year sign is almost always misleading. The reason is simple. In BaZi, money is not described by the Monkey or the Dragon. It is described by the wealth star 財 (cái), and that star is defined by the element your Day Master controls. The Day Master (日主, rì zhǔ) is the stem in the day pillar, and for two Monkeys it can be opposite: one has Metal, another Water, a third Wood. For the first the year 2027 reads one way, for the third quite differently.

So this article works on two levels. The first is what the year 丁未 does to the branch 申 as such. That is background, shared by everyone whose sign is the Monkey. The second is how that background refracts for ten different Day Masters. You can check yours in a minute if you know your day stem (this site calculates it in the free calculator).

The general reading of the sign is in The Monkey in the 2027 Fire Goat Year, and the overview across signs is in Money in 2027: Who the Fire Goat Pays. This piece covers finances only, and honestly: no advice on where to invest and no promises of income.

1 What the year does to the branch 申

The branch 申 hides three stems: 庚 (Yang Metal), 壬 (Yang Water) and 戊 (Yang Earth). The usual formula for the Monkey is a sharp instrument, mobility and a floor underfoot. The year 丁未 brings Yin Fire in the sky and dry Earth on the ground, and in that Earth lie 己, 丁 and 乙.

There is no direct link between 申 and 未. The classics see neither a union nor a clash here. What remains is the flow of elements. Earth produces Metal (土生金): the branch 未 passes part of its strength to the branch 申. At the same time the Fire of 丁 presses on Metal (火克金). It is an uneven picture: heat on top, support underneath. For money the key point is a different one: the support for 申 is a little better than for the Rooster. The Monkey itself contains the Water of 壬, and some schools remind us that dry summer Earth without Water feeds Metal badly (the principle 燥土不生金, applied not mechanically but with an eye on the Water in the whole chart). The Water 壬 inside 申 softens that rider, so the year's support reaches the Monkey more noticeably than the Rooster, though without generosity.

The conclusion for the general background is that the year is more helping than taking. But "helping" does not mean "generous." This is a year when someone is more likely to hand you a tool than money. Training, contacts, mentors, a good workplace, an agreement with a partner: these come more often than a sudden profit.

2 Ten Day Masters: what 丁 and 己 give in the money sphere

Now the Day Master level. The year stem 丁 and the main hidden stem of 未, which is 己, turn into different Ten Gods depending on who you are.

Day Master丁 (year stem)己 (main stem in 未)How it reads in money
甲傷官 Hurting Officer正財 Direct WealthIdeas turn into income (食傷生財); a working year
乙食神 Eating God偏財 Indirect WealthIncome from craft and flexible projects
丙劫財 Rob Wealth傷官 Hurting OfficerCompetitors and shared spending; income through skills
丁比肩 Friend食神 Eating GodA "my own business" year; be careful with joint money
戊正印 Direct Resource劫財 Rob WealthSupport and training, but money is shared with others
己偏印 Indirect Resource比肩 FriendBuilding competence; income is slower
庚正官 Direct Officer正印 Direct ResourcePosition, status, structure; money through your standing
辛七殺 Seven Killings偏印 Indirect ResourcePressure and deadlines; income through a hard task
壬正財 Direct Wealth正官 Direct OfficerThe wealth star lands on the year stem; steady earnings
癸偏財 Indirect Wealth七殺 Seven KillingsMoving money, earning from opportunities, but with risk

Read the table without fanaticism. Direct Wealth (正財) in a strong chart means regular income, while in a weak one it can mean money comes but there is no strength to manage it. A Day Master of 壬 with the year 丁 gets a "money" top layer, but the full picture depends on the strength of 壬 itself and on what stands in the other pillars. The same goes for Rob Wealth (劫財): for one person it is losing money in a dispute with relatives, for another it is the working strength of a crew.

The main thing the table shows is that for Monkeys with a Day Master of 壬 and 癸 the year stem gives the wealth star directly, for 庚 and 辛 money comes through position and pressure, and for 甲 and 乙 through ideas and craft. If you do not know your day stem, start there.

3 If your Day Master is Metal: the path of money through Water to Wood

A special case is a Metal Day Master (庚 or 辛). For Metal, money is Wood: 乙 and 甲. In 2027 the Wood sits in the branch 未 inside the hidden stem 乙, so the wealth is "hidden" inside the year's storehouse rather than lying on the surface. To get it out you need a chain: Metal produces Water (金生水), Water produces Wood (水生木). In 申 there is Water: the stem 壬. That gives a ready chain: skill, then contacts and ideas, then income.

The practical meaning is that for Metal, 2027 is not about earning directly through force (the standard Metal scheme: I work, I get paid) but about earning indirectly: first you give something, share, teach, offer, and income grows out of that. The Eating God and Hurting Officer producing wealth (食傷生財) is considered in the classics one of the most stable schemes. But it works only if the Water in the chart is not dried out. Summer sun, heat and an abundance of Fire turn water into steam. Check whether your chart is overheated; the classical concept for that is Tiao Hou 調候: Climate Balance in BaZi.

4 The months of 2027: when deals pay, when spending bites

The monthly pillars help sketch the rhythm of the year. Boundaries are approximate, give or take a day.

Jan 6 – Feb 3, 2028癸丑noneYear-end summary; 丑未 clash with the year branch

A closer look at the key points. February, 壬寅. 寅申冲 hits the Monkey directly. For 申, 寅 is also the Traveling Horse 驛馬 (more in Yi Ma 驛馬 — the Travelling Horse Star in BaZi), so February in money terms is a change of rules: a different boss, a different contract, a different client. That is not bad, it is a transition. The mistake of February is signing on emotion. If a new contract is offered in the first two weeks, read it twice.

May, 乙巳. 巳 with 申 gives a Six Harmony (六合), but the same pair is part of the Six Destructions (六破), and together with 寅 it forms the triple punishment 寅巳申. Which of the three sounds loudest is decided by the chart. In practice the month is good for concluding agreements and bad for careless wording: a union is pleasant today, and the terms that were forgotten come back half a year later.

June, 丙午. Fire at its peak: the stem 丙 and the branch 午 press on Metal. The Horse month forms a Six Harmony 午未 with the year, so outwardly June is harmonious while the Metal is uncomfortable. A typical way this shows in money: more spending than planned, obligations that grew faster than income. If your chart has 巳, then 巳午未 forms a Directional Combination of Fire and the pressure is felt even more.

September, 己酉. For Metal it is a month of its own element. If the chart already has a lot of Metal, you get Friends and Rob Wealth (比劫): competition and splitting of shared things. If there is little, it is the opposite: support. A good time to take stock and discuss a share with a partner.

October to early November, 庚戌. 戌 and 未 form a destruction (破). In a chart with 丑 nearby this becomes the full 丑戌未 punishment, but that combination exists only for some people. The typical story: small but unpleasant financial snags, paperwork, taxes, fines, legal trifles.

December, 壬子. The most favorable month for completing settlements: Water feeds Wood, and 申 and 子 form half of the Three Harmony.

Where the money sits in your chart

The wealth star is set by your Day Master, not by your birth year. Year Ahead 2027 lays 丁未 over all eight characters of your chart and shows which Ten God the year hands to you. The full BaZi reading goes further into income, spending and risk patterns. Neither is financial advice.

5 Three typical scenarios

Salaried work. In 2027 a Monkey does well to lean on structure: a good position, a stable manager, clear rules. The strongest months for a raise conversation are March and April (癸卯, 甲辰), not February and not June. In February management has not yet settled; in June money questions run into pressure.

Your own business or freelance. The year gives structures and people. It is less suited to sharp new starts: 寅申冲 in February begs for a change of course, but 己 and 丁 from 未 tend to support what already works rather than what is only starting. If you are opening a business, a start in March or April is steadier than in February or May. Choosing exact dates is a separate task, and for opening a business there is Business Opening Date Selection.

Savings and big purchases. Caution is appropriate here. An apartment, a car, a large loan: these are decisions with high stakes, and no year sign should be the only basis for them. If your chart contains branches that connect with the months 寅 (February) and 戌 (October to early November), it is better not to pick those months for signing significant commitments.

6 The birth stem: every Monkey has their own

The sign is one, but Monkeys come with five stems, and the stem of the birth year also changes the picture. Monkeys born in 1956 (丙申), 1968 (戊申), 1980 (庚申), 1992 (壬申) and 2004 (甲申) each meet the stem 丁 differently.

The Monkey of 1992, 壬申, meets 丁 in a pair: 丁壬合, a Water stem combining with a Fire stem. For money that is an interesting turn. Water, which in the ordinary cycle controls Fire, bonds with it, and the year's energy does not press directly but becomes a partnership. The classics speak cautiously: a combination may "bind" an element and change its character, but only if nothing interferes. Other 壬 in the chart, or a lack of support, can weaken it. For 1980, 庚申, the stem 庚 meets 丁 as Fire that forges Metal: for money it is a year of pressure on status, but also a chance to be polished. For 1956, 丙申, the 丙 beside 丁 makes a double Fire, and the Metal of the branch 申 gets twice the heat. The years 1968 (戊申) and 2004 (甲申) are in a less tense position: Earth 戊 feeds Metal, and Wood 甲 produces Fire 丁 rather than arguing with it.

You do not need to memorize any of this. It is enough to grasp the principle: your personal story is assembled from the year stem, the year branch and the other six characters, and the Monkey sign sets only the tone.

7 The Monkey and "fast money"

Monkeys are drawn more often than others to schemes with quick returns: unusual projects, bets on an idea, resale, personal connections. That tendency is not harmful in itself; it reflects the mobility of the 壬 in the branch. In the year 丁未 there is a nuance: the Fire on top lights up short-term profit and makes it more attractive, while the dry Earth below holds water poorly. Money comes and goes without staying.

A working formula for such years: every time you feel you have found a way to earn fast, ask one question. Who is on the other side of the deal, and what do they have that I do not? If there is no answer, you are buying your own confidence from yourself. For the branch 申 this is especially relevant in February (寅申冲, impulse), May (乙巳, an agreement that is pleasant to sign) and November (辛亥, 害 harm, resentment between partners over vague shares).

One last point. A Monkey's money is often tied to communication. A contact you have kept up for three years suddenly offers work in 2027. So the calmest investment of this year is people: not a network, but a few real connections that can be woken with a letter.

8 Typical Monkey mistakes with money in the year 丁未

The Monkey is a clever sign, and its mistakes are clever too: they come not from ignorance but from the certainty that it will work out by itself.

Assuming the year helps, so effort is optional. The supporting background of Earth producing Metal speaks of help, not of a guarantee. Money does not come to someone who has not put a hand on the wheel.

Signing a contract in February while it is hot. 寅申冲 creates a feeling that you must catch the moment. The proven way out is to wait a week and reread the terms.

Not counting small summer expenses. June and July (丙午, 丁未) are the "hottest" months for spending for Metal. A budget with a 10 to 15 percent reserve protects you from unpleasant discoveries.

Putting money into other people's ventures with a light heart. For Day Masters of 庚 and 辛, distance is especially useful in 2027: 丁 is the Officer or the Seven Killings for them, that is, the one who checks. Promises of "quick returns" should be treated as a red flag.

9 What to do: a plan for the year

First quarter: do not change working conditions and do not commit money until two weeks after 立春 (February 4, 2027) have passed. Second quarter: negotiate, build, look for clients; May comes with the caveat about wording. Third quarter: keep a reserve, postpone big purchases, recount the budget. Fourth: sum up, close settlements, avoid risk in October.

These are not trading recommendations but the rhythm of the year. It describes when it is natural to move and when to wait, and it coincides with ordinary common sense, only marked with branches.

The year neither gives nor takes money. It shows which side of the table it is lying on.

In short, the 2027 background for the Monkey is more helping than pressing. The money picture as a whole depends on the Day Master and on how strong Metal is in your chart. The year sign is only the top layer, and an exact answer comes from a full calculation. Where the wealth star sits in your own chart is a question for the free chart first.

Choosing a date for something new

If you are planning to launch something in 2027, the date is better chosen from your own chart than from the year sign. Business Opening Date Selection does that; Year Ahead covers the year as a whole.

10 Frequently asked questions

Will the Monkey have money in 2027?

The year sign does not answer that question. The wealth star is defined by the Day Master, not by the birth year. As background: the Earth of 未 produces the Metal of 申, so the year more often supports than takes away, but that is not a guarantee of income.

Which months of 2027 are the most convenient for a Monkey's financial decisions?

Most often March and April (癸卯, 甲辰), because there are no sharp links and the element Wood, the wealth star for Metal, is in view. December (壬子) suits closing accounts.

Why is February 2027 risky for the Monkey's money?

In February the month 壬寅 forms the clash 寅申冲 with 申. It is a month of changing conditions, so hurried signatures and irreversible decisions are better postponed by a week or two.

Do I need to know my Day Master to understand my financial year?

Yes, that is the main thing. The same stem 丁 gives a Direct Wealth (正財) to a Day Master of 壬, a Direct Officer (正官) to 庚 and Seven Killings (七殺) to 辛. The Day Master is calculated from your birth date, and it is free in the BaZi calculator.

Is this financial advice?

No. The article describes a general background under classical BaZi rules. Decisions about investments, loans and deals should rest on financial information and a consultation with a qualified specialist.
