The BaZi calendar has a month called the "noon of the year". It is 午 (wǔ), the Horse month, the fifth counting from 立春. It begins with 芒種 (máng zhòng, "grain in ear") around June 6 and ends on the eve of 小暑 (xiǎo shǔ, "lesser heat") around July 7. In the middle stands the summer solstice, 夏至 (xià zhì), in 2027 around June 21: the longest day, the highest point of Yang.

The month pillar is 丙午 (bǐng wǔ). Both characters are fiery: 丙 is Yang Fire, the direct sun, and 午 is the Horse branch, the purest Fire branch. Double Fire, which classical vocabulary calls "the sun over the sun". Above it stands the year stem 丁, a quiet candle. The Horse, meanwhile, is joined to the year's Goat by the union 午未, and together they make two thirds of the summer trio.

A warning up front: double Fire does not mean "it will be hot and frightening", and a general month is not a schedule of events. It describes a background, and different charts live through it very differently. Below we look at why. If you do not know how much Fire your own chart holds, you can calculate it for free.

Bing Wu · The sun on the Horse
bǐng wǔ · fifth month of the year 丁未, June 6 – July 6, 2027

1 The highest point of Yang, and the turn

The ancients watched the Sun and noticed that at the solstice the day reaches its maximum and then, almost imperceptibly, begins to shorten. That is reflected in the formula 一陰生 (yī yīn shēng), "one Yin is born": at the very peak of 午, inside Yang, the first seed of Yin appears. In the winter 子 it is the other way round: there Yang is born. For us it means something simple: June is both the culmination and the turning point. What is done in the first half of the month builds momentum, and in the second half it is time to think about preservation.

If you want to understand better how the season influences the strength of the elements, reread the article on the month command. In the year 丁未 the summer Fire is doubled: a fiery year meets a fiery season, and 丙午 is the summit of this double acceleration.

2 Two fires in one sky: 丙 and 丁

The month stem 丙 and the year stem 丁 belong to one element but have different polarity. In the scheme of the Ten Gods, for a Day Master of 丁 the stem 丙 is 劫財 (jié cái, Rob Wealth), and for a Day Master of 丙 the stem 丁 is also 劫財. Put simply, two fires compete: each has its own flame, and neither wants to give up its place.

This metaphor explains people's behavior in June well. The wish to be noticed, to take the floor, to show a result moves to the front. Publicity, performances and presentations go more easily. But competition sharpens too: someone who politely nodded last month now argues openly. The pillar as a whole is neither bad nor good: it is loud.

Note one more detail. 丙 stands on 午 in the position of "imperial prosperity" (帝旺, dì wàng), the strongest of the twelve phases. So the thin candle of the year, 丁, is lost next to the sun: its little flame is less visible. For the Fire Goat this is a month when the year steps slightly into the background and the season comes to the front.

3 午未合: the warmest union of the year

Now the branches. 午 and 未 belong to the six combinations, 六合 (liù hé), and this very pair is considered the warmest in the scheme: the Sun and the Moon, Fire and Earth. The classics called it the union of the "Sun and Moon", 日月合. Unlike a trio, the Six Harmony is the link of a pair and not collective action, and its character is heartfelt: mutual support, softened corners, a readiness to meet halfway.

Besides, 午 and 未 together belong to the seasonal gathering 巳午未 (三會). So we get two thirds of the trio plus a separate union inside. The month forms a double link between the season and the year, and that is what distinguishes it from its neighbors, where there is one link or none at all. More about these kinds of links is in the article on Six Harmony and in the one on Three Harmony.

In practice this means a softened rather than an aggressive June. The two fires argue, but under the branches a union holds them, and the sharpest corners are usually smoothed. That is why many people remember June not as a "hot quarrel" but as a period of strong activity with warm relationships.

The union 午未 has a personal dimension too, which is worth separating from the general background. If your chart contains 午, in June it meets the year's 未, and in your own configuration that warm link switches on: for people with a Horse in the day pillar the month often brings a thaw in close relationships, a wish to meet halfway, reconcile, agree. If 未 stands in your chart (or you were born in a Goat year), the union works from the other side: June supports and softens your yearly theme. But it is important not to turn this into a promise: 六合 describes disposition, the climate of a period, not a guaranteed meeting or reconciliation. How the link plays out is decided by the full chart: whether Fire is useful to you, whether there is a branch nearby that breaks this union.

For the Day Master's element, this double Fire unfolds differently. To Wood people (甲, 乙) the month gives an outlet: Wood burns and feeds Fire, ideas turn easily into deeds, though much energy is spent. For the fiery themselves (丙, 丁) it is a doubling of their own element: confidence, visibility, but also a risk of overheating, out-arguing others, wasting the spark. For Earth (戊, 己) Fire arrives as a Resource (印): support, knowledge, a second wind, a good time to learn and lean on elders. For Metal (庚, 辛) June is the hardest: Fire melts Metal, and such people feel fatigue and pressure more sharply; they especially need water, shade and a gentle regime. For Water (壬, 癸) the month's Fire is wealth and affairs (財): there are many opportunities, but it is important not to be torn apart serving them all at once.

4 The twelve signs in the Horse month

The relationship of the branch 午 with the twelve branches. The birth-year sign gives only a surface layer, while what really works are the four branches of your chart, most of all the day branch.

Sign branchLink with 午What it means in the 丙午 month
子 Rat冲 clashA direct clash: Water and Fire. Changes, arguments, sharp turns in plans and relationships.
丑 Ox害 harmHarm: the Ox and the Horse catch each other with small things. Irritation accumulates quietly.
寅 Tigerhalf 三合 Three HarmonyHalf of the Fire trio 寅午戌 (戌 is missing): energy, excitement, enthusiasm. Make sure you do not burn out by the end of the month.
卯 Rabbit破 destructionDestruction: the Rabbit and the Horse undermine agreements. Plans have to be revised.
辰 Dragonno direct linkNo direct link. The Dragon holds damp earth, which balances the heat of the month.
巳 Snake三會 Directional CombinationTogether with the year's 未, a Snake branch in your chart completes the summer gathering 巳午未: the Snake is strengthened by Fire. A bright, rich time, but with a risk of overheating.
午 Horse自刑 self-punishmentYour own month with self-punishment. The Horse burns, the attention of others is higher than usual, and energy needs an outlet.
未 Goat六合 Six Harmony, half 三會A union and a seasonal gathering: the Goat and the Horse find a common language. A warm month, dense with contacts.
申 Monkeyno direct linkNo direct link. The Monkey watches, Metal is weakened by Fire, but it does not conflict with the month.
酉 Roosterno direct linkNo direct link. Metal is weakened in the Fire season, and the Rooster works at half strength and saves resources.
戌 Doghalf 三合 Three HarmonyHalf of the Fire trio (寅 is missing): the Dog gets support and warm relationships. A brisk and active month.
亥 Pigno direct linkNo direct link. The Pig gets the support of Water, and the month is easier to bear.

The sharpest pair of the month is the Horse and the Rat: 子午冲 (zǐ-wǔ chōng) is the classic clash of Fire and Water, "north against south". The Horse also forms self-punishment with itself, 午午, which sometimes shows as overheating and excessive demands on oneself. The unions and trios of the Horse with the Goat, the Tiger and the Dog ease the month and should be considered in your chart too. More: clashes 沖, harms 害, destructions 破.

5 What the stem 丙 means for different Day Masters

The stem 丙, the sun, turns into different Gods for different Day Masters. The left column is calculated from generation and control, the right translates it into everyday language:

Day Master丙 for themHow it sounds this month
Yang Wood (甲)食神 Eating GodFire as an outlet for talent. A good month for creativity, presentations, lively work.
Yin Wood (乙)傷官 Hurting OfficerA sharp tongue, independence, rebellion against rules. Creative lift together with a risk of arguments.
Yang Fire (丙)比肩 FriendFriend, and 羊刃 on the branch: double sun, energy, decisiveness. Watch for impulsive acts.
Yin Fire (丁)劫財 Rob WealthCompetition, shared money, a temptation to spend. Clear boundaries help.
Yang Earth (戊)偏印 Indirect ResourceUnconventional help, learning, knowledge "from the other side". A warm, supporting month.
Yin Earth (己)正印 Direct ResourceSupport, patrons, care. Suited to recovery and paperwork.
Yang Metal (庚)七殺 Seven KillingsPressure, hard deadlines, struggle. With discipline it tempers; without it, it wears you out.
Yin Metal (辛)正官 Direct OfficerThe combination 丙辛 and a Direct Officer: status, recognition, agreements. A pleasant month of responsibility.
Yang Water (壬)偏財 Indirect WealthIndirect Wealth and a 丙壬 clash: opportunities along with inner tension. Be careful with risks.
Yin Water (癸)正財 Direct WealthSalary, stable income, practical decisions. A month for careful finances.

Two pairs deserve separate mention. For the Day Master 辛, the stem 丙 forms the combination 丙辛合, and the month sounds like an attraction toward status, a partner or an idea. For the Day Master 壬 it is the opposite: 丙壬冲 gives a clash of stems, and sometimes it is felt as an inner conflict between "must" and "want". Other subtleties are organized in the article on the Ten Gods and in the 2027 forecast by Day Master.

6 In practice: energy, negotiations, rest

Energy. The best use of double Fire is short powerful pushes: presentations, launching a campaign, public speaking, holding an event. After four or five weeks of such a regime fatigue accumulates, so build pauses in advance.

Negotiations. The union 午未 helps find a common language, and Fire adds emotion. Watch your tone: what is said in a hot minute is quickly forgotten by the author and long remembered by the addressee. Fix agreements in writing and at a calm hour, preferably in the morning.

Competition. Two fires want to be first, so in the 丙午 month disputes over leadership grow, especially in teams with several bright people. Distribute roles and zones of responsibility in advance. That is a recipe that is organizational, not mystical.

By weeks, June is divided in two by the solstice. From 芒種 (around June 6) to 夏至 (around June 21) Yang is still growing: a time for recruiting, accelerating and active starts, when everything that needs pressure and visibility goes uphill. After 夏至, when "one Yin is born" and the day begins to shorten, the task quietly changes: no longer to build up but to hold and finish what has been started. The practical conclusion is simple: big public moves, such as a launch, a talk or a campaign, are better placed in the first half of the month, and the second half given to consolidating the result and to rest before the heat wears you out.

Rest. Choose water and shade. In BaZi Water is the element that softens Fire, so a lake, a river, the sea, a shower and cold tea work both as an image and as a practice. A holiday with walks at dawn and sunset is more pleasant than one in the heat of the day. If you have chronic conditions, rely on your doctor rather than on a classical calendar.

Money and projects. Double Fire makes the month visible and public, so June is good for everything that lives on attention: sales through talks, launches with a bright announcement, media occasions. But the same fire easily turns excitement into impulsive spending and promises made on a high. A sensible tactic is to strike while the iron is hot in the first half of the month, and to check big financial decisions that are hard to reverse with a cool head after the solstice. For charts where money comes through Water or Metal, remember that the fiery season dries these elements out, and do not count on ease where it is not available now.

On heat stress. All that is said about a "hot" month is a figurative system, not medical advice. The heat of June 2027 depends on the climate of your region, not on characters.

7 Stars of the month: 桃花 and 羊刃

The branch 午 plays two noticeable roles. For those born in the years of the Snake, Rooster and Ox (巳酉丑) it is the 桃花 star (táo huā, Peach Blossom): the theme of charm, flirting, popularity. In June these people are conspicuous and attractive. More on the star is in the article on Peach Blossom.

For the Day Master 丙 the branch 午 is 羊刃 (yáng rèn, the "Goat Blade"): by classical rules, a concentration of one's own strength so powerful that it can cut its owner as well. In a chart, such a person receives decisiveness and energy together with a risk of abrupt acts. The 丙午 month for them is a doubling of exactly this theme. Stars of this kind are described in the material on 羊刃, the Goat Blade.

8 How to check the month against your own chart

A few words on how June is lived by people with "cold" charts, that is, with a lot of Water and Metal. For them double Fire is not a threat but a resource: warmth, clarity, strength to act. Often it is in such months that they manage what stalled in the cold seasons. For people with a hot chart, with a lot of Fire and little Water, June is like a stove switched on. They should especially protect their daily routine and not plan all important matters in a row.

So one and the same month is easily described as "the best" and as "the hardest", depending on whom we describe it for. That is the reason why general forecasts are not enough.

A short example of putting layers together. Let the Day Master be 辛 (Yin Metal), with 午 (Horse) and 子 (Rat) in the chart. The month stem 丙 for 辛 is 丙辛合, a combination of stems: it pulls toward partnership, status, formalizing a relationship. But the branch 午 in the chart together with the month's 午 gives 自刑 (午午) and adds Fire, which for a Metal Day Master works as pressure (官殺); the branch 子 meanwhile catches the direct 子午冲 with the month's 午. It adds up like this: the month beckons with a union and status, but beneath lies overheating and a clash, so it is better not to take important decisions in a hot minute. If instead of 午 the same person had 辰 (Dragon, damp earth), the Fire of the month would be softened, and 丙辛合 would read far more calmly. One pillar, 丙午, different weather on two charts.

To understand what June does to you personally, go through your chart on four points. Who is your Day Master and how does it relate to Fire? Is there a lot of Fire in the chart: if so, June will only add heat; if little, it will warm. Are 子, 丑, 卯, 戌 or 寅 among your branches, since they enter unions or conflicts with 午? And which luck pillar are you in now?

The month and the year describe general background, not fate. The exact picture comes only from the full chart by date, time and place of birth. You can compare June with the other months in the 2027 calendar, and the principles of reading monthly pillars are gathered in the article on 流月.

At noon the sun is highest and the shadow shortest. It is also the hour when the day starts to turn.

9 Frequently asked questions

When does the Horse month begin in BaZi in 2027?

The 丙午 month opens with the node 芒種, around June 6, 2027, and lasts until 小暑, around July 7. The summer solstice 夏至 falls in the middle of the month.

What does 午未合 mean in this month?

The Six Harmony links the month branch 午 with the year branch 未. It is a warm, softening link between the season and the year. It smooths sharp corners but does not guarantee the absence of conflict.

Why is 丙午 called double Fire?

The stem 丙 is Yang Fire, and the branch 午 is the purest Fire branch. Both characters are of one element, so the pillar is considered extremely "hot". For charts with little Fire it is extra warmth; where there is a lot, it is overheating.

Which sign has the hardest June?

The Rat: 子午冲 gives a direct clash of Water and Fire. Difficulties are less pronounced for the Ox (害) and the Rabbit (破). The Horse itself is touched by self-punishment, 午午.

What should I do if my chart is too fiery?

In BaZi this is called an excess of Fire, and it is balanced with Water and Earth. In practice it is a matter of tempo: pauses, spreading the load, written agreements. Specific recommendations come only from the full chart.
