Somewhere in the last days of October, something imperceptible changes in the northern hemisphere: it gets dark by five, it is finally cold outside, and people begin to talk about "a routine". The Chinese calendar does the same thing at that point, in its own way. Around November 7 the Sun passes the term 立冬 (lì dōng, "Start of Winter"), and command of the month passes to branch 亥, to Water and to the sign of the Pig.
The month pillar in 2027 is 辛亥 (xīn hài): stem 辛, Yin Metal, above branch 亥, Yin Water. For the year of the Goat 丁未 this month is one of the friendliest: branches 亥 and 未 belong to one classical group of Wood, and the hidden stem of the branch, 壬, enters a union with the year stem 丁. At the same time branch 亥 has a sharp axis, the clash with 巳, the Snake. We take all this in order.
As always, a caveat: this is the background of the month, not the destiny of a particular person. The chart of eight characters, the ten-year luck pillar (大運, dà yùn) and the current year overlay the general picture and sometimes turn it upside down.
1 Start of Winter: the term 立冬 and the character of Water
With 立冬 the winter quarter begins in BaZi: the months 亥, 子 and 丑. The character 亥 denotes the moment when "everything goes inward". In the farming sense it is the time of laying in stores, repairs and preparation for the long dark months. In human terms it is a month when one wants fewer outer events and more inner work.
Branch 亥 is Yin Water, but not as mobile as the Water of 子 in the depth of winter. This is deep, slow water, like a lake in November. One more feature: in the classics 亥 is the place where Wood is "born" (長生, cháng shēng, the birth stage of 甲). Under the icy surface of the water, spring energy is already ripening. That is why the month suits planning too: ideas conceived now often mature by spring.
2 Pearl and water: the elements of 辛亥
In classical imagery stem 辛 is not an ingot but a jewel: a pearl, a piece of jewellery, a fine needle. It is sensitive, fussy about quality and afraid of dirt. Above branch 亥 with its Yin Water it finds itself in the position well known in the school as "Water washes the gem". Metal produces Water, so the stem gives strength to the branch, but the classics consider this image pleasant: precious Metal needs clean water to shine.
Inside branch 亥 there are two hidden stems: the main one 壬 (Yang Water) and 甲 (Yang Wood). Note that 壬 is strong, flowing Water, much more than one would guess from the Yin branch itself. As we shall see below, it is exactly this stem that enters a union with the year. In the 納音 (nà yīn) system the pair 庚戌 and 辛亥 is called 釵釧金, "Gold of Hairpins and Bracelets". For October and November the image is one: fine work, ornaments, polishing to a shine. The month rewards accuracy and taste.
3 The 亥卯未 union: why the group is partial
A Three Harmony (三合, sān hé) is three branches which, coming together, form one element. For Wood these are 亥 (birth), 卯 (flourishing) and 未 (storehouse). Branches 亥 and 未 are both present in November 2027: the first commands the month, the second stands in the year. Together they form "half a group", which the classics call 半合 (bàn hé), a half-union. It is weaker than a full group but noticeably stronger than no link at all.
There is no full group in November because 卯 appears in 2027 as a month branch only in March (the month 癸卯, around March 6 to April 4), eight months earlier. So the group comes together only in charts that already contain 卯: for Rabbits, and for people with 卯 in the month, day or hour pillar. For them November becomes the moment when what has accumulated in the storehouse finds a natural outlet. For the principle of group unions, read the article on 三合.
Wood in this group, in the charts of the Goat, the Pig and the Rabbit, is interpreted as "support for a project": an idea begun at the start of the year suddenly gets resources. It is not a promise of success but a description of an internal mechanism: three branches speak one language.
4 The hidden stem union: 丁壬合
Here is a detail that rarely reaches popular texts. The year stem 丁 (Yin Fire) and the main hidden stem of branch 亥, 壬 (Yang Water), form the classical stem union 丁壬合 (dīng rén hé). In the school it is called the union of "Wood" (丁壬化木), which coincides in meaning with the group 亥卯未, also Wood. The result is a doubling: two independent lines point to one element.
A stem union through a hidden stem is weaker than one through a visible stem. For a strong effect you need 壬 in the open, for instance a 壬 Day Master or a stem 壬 in one of the pillars. But as a background November is coloured by it: the Fire of the year and the Water of the month are drawn toward each other. So for people with a 壬 or 丁 Day Master the month feels special: a pull, a good coincidence of circumstances. Do not take attraction for choice: a union requires awareness, or you will be carried where you did not plan to go. For more on this kind of link, read the article on 天干合.
The only thing that complicates the picture is stem 辛 itself. The year stem 丁 controls 辛: Fire melts Metal. The image of "a forge above a jewel" is softened in November by water: Water at once puts out Fire and washes Metal. The month turns out balanced and a little tired. That is why November is so good for repairs, tuning and finishing touches.
5 The twelve signs in the month of the Pig
The table is built on the classical rules: 六合, 三合, 三會, 六冲, 六害, 六破, 自刑. For group links "partial" is shown, since two of the three branches meet in the month.
| Your sign | Link with the month branch 亥 | How it usually feels |
|---|---|---|
| Rat 子 | 三會 亥子丑 (partial) | Partial winter Directional Combination: a quiet, inner rhythm, more home affairs |
| Ox 丑 | 三會 亥子丑 (partial) | Partial winter combination: accumulation, patience, slow results |
| Tiger 寅 | 六合; 六破 | Union 寅亥 and destruction at once: closeness, but with small failures in agreements |
| Rabbit 卯 | 三合 亥卯未 (partial) | Partial Wood group 亥卯未: support, a creative lift |
| Dragon 辰 | no direct link | No direct link; the month is neutral |
| Snake 巳 | 六冲 (clash) | Clash 巳亥: the sharpest position, change, travel, shifting plans |
| Horse 午 | no direct link | No direct link; a calm month |
| Goat 未 | 三合 亥卯未 (partial) | Partial Wood group 亥卯未: the Goat receives the support of the month |
| Monkey 申 | 六害 (harm) | Harm 申亥: small hurts, things left unsaid, roughness |
| Rooster 酉 | no direct link | No direct link; working neutrality |
| Dog 戌 | no direct link | No direct link; the month passes by, so look at the elements |
| Pig 亥 | 自刑 亥亥 (self-punishment) | Self-punishment 亥亥: your own sign repeated, a tendency to inner replaying |
The main axis of the month is 巳亥冲 (sì hài chōng). The Snake receives a clash, and it is felt as a change of the habitual course: a trip, a move, an unexpected meeting. The special thing about the clash 巳亥 is that both branches contain moving elements (Fire and Water), so the clash comes out dynamic rather than destructive. For Snakes, who in general like order, it is a noticeable test, but for those whose affairs have frozen it often proves a rescue.
The Tiger falls into the strange pair 寅亥. On one hand there is the Six Harmony union 六合, a friendly link. On the other hand there is 六破, destruction. The classics speak of a union with a chip in it: you grow close quickly, and the agreements tear in the details. A practical tip: record the details in writing, and the union will work at full strength.
The Rabbit and the Goat receive the support of the partial group 亥卯未. For the Goat this is especially noticeable in 2027: after a tense July and October, November feels like an exhale. The Rat and the Ox fall into the winter Directional Combination 亥子丑, which speaks of a rising winter element, more home affairs and fewer events outside. The Monkey receives the harm 申亥, small but noticeable in communication. The Pig meets its own sign with the self-punishment 亥亥: its own theme repeats, and the main work goes on inside.
The Dragon, Horse, Rooster and Dog remain without direct links. For them the month is read through the elements and the stem.
6 Stem 辛 and the ten Day Masters
Stem 辛 is Yin Metal. The table below shows what it turns into for each Day Master (日主, rì zhǔ).
| Day Master | Stem 辛 for it | What it brings this month |
|---|---|---|
| 甲 | 正官 Direct Officer | Order, position, formal recognition |
| 乙 | 七殺 Seven Killings | Seven Killings and the stem clash 乙辛: pressure, inspections, sharp turns |
| 丙 | 正財 Direct Wealth | Direct wealth and the union 丙辛: income, agreements, a feeling that things add up |
| 丁 | 偏財 Indirect Wealth | Flexible money, exchange, side jobs, risk |
| 戊 | 傷官 Hurting Officer | A sharp tongue, talent, conflict with authorities |
| 己 | 食神 Eating God | Soft creativity, teaching, care for loved ones |
| 庚 | 劫財 Rob Wealth | A rival for resources; be careful with joint spending |
| 辛 | 比肩 Friend | Colleagues and friends, an equal pace, support |
| 壬 | 正印 Direct Resource | Mentors, knowledge, documents, a reliable support |
| 癸 | 偏印 Indirect Resource | Research, unconventional sources, solitary study |
Two stem links deserve to be named explicitly. For a 乙 Day Master, stem 辛 forms the classical stem clash 乙辛冲 and at the same time gives the Seven Killings. The theme of pressure is felt more sharply by 乙 than by the others, although the Seven Killings in charts often also stand for strength of character. For a 丙 Day Master it is different: 丙辛合, a stem union, plus Direct Wealth, that is, a calm and pleasant bundle of money and agreements. For more on stem unions, read the separate article; the Ten Gods themselves are described in the overview.
How 辛亥 lands on your chart
The partial group 亥卯未, the clash 巳亥 and the union 丁壬 work differently depending on where those branches and stems stand in your pillars. Year Ahead 2027 follows the year on your own chart, month by month, with no event guarantees. The Standard reading shows your eight characters and covers the year in which you order it, not 2027.

Money. The month is favorable for planning the next year: budget, taxes, savings, a review of subscriptions. Water produces Wood, and Wood in the classics is growth for the future. Market decisions, as always, make by your own logic: the BaZi calendar describes the quality of time, not the movement of rates.
Home. Winter months suit repairs, rearranging, insulating and laying in supplies. Household tasks you have postponed since summer will now get their time. Water in general likes to complete what stands still.
Negotiation. The union 亥卯未 helps Goats, Rabbits and Pigs to agree. Snakes and Tigers should arrive with a fallback option. In general the month allows soft forms: letters, calls, shared dinners where a decision ripens without pressure.
Work and study. Metal above Water sharpens analytical thinking. It is a month for what needs accuracy and concentration: reports, calculations, texts, editing. If you feel your attention scattering, the cause is the self-punishment 亥亥 (if you are a Pig) or the clash 巳亥 (if you are a Snake), not laziness.
Rest. Water in winter should be warm: a bathhouse, hot food, a blanket, unhurried walks. This is not medical advice but an image with which the school describes the balance of the month's elements.
It is worth saying something about the inner rhythm of November. Branch 亥 is Water on the threshold of winter, and above it in the stem stands 辛, Metal, which itself produces Water. The result is a pillar that pulls inward, toward reflection and planning, rather than outward to noisy launches. Hence the practical conclusion: November 2027 is good not for announcing something new loudly but for quietly assembling its basis. People with a lot of Water in the chart may feel an excess of "thinking" this month: thoughts spin and decisions are put off. Grounding helps them: a concrete list, one action a day, a conversation with someone who will bring them back to reality. For people with a dry, "fiery" chart, November on the contrary gives a welcome breather and a clarity that was missing in summer. And once again the sign of the year decides nothing; what decides is which element is scarce in your chart and which is overflowing.
8 An example: how it looks in a living chart
Take a hypothetical chart in which the Day Master is 丙 and the day pillar holds 卯. In November 2027 several lines converge at once. The month's 亥 and the year's 未 complete the full group 亥卯未 with 卯, so the group stops being a "half-union" and works as a real Wood union. Stem 辛 for a 丙 Day Master forms the union 丙辛 and gives Direct Wealth. Such a person most often notices in November that money and agreements are settled more softly than in earlier months, and that the necessary people get in touch on their own.
Now another example: a 乙 Day Master with 巳 in the month pillar. Here the same branch 亥 strikes 巳, and stem 辛 clashes with 乙. This is not a catastrophe, but November for such a person runs at higher revs: inspections, a changed schedule, other people's demands. Two charts, one month, different experience. That is exactly why a general forecast by sign remains only a starting point.
9 What November does not promise
A union of branches does not mean success, and a clash does not mean loss. 亥卯未 describes three branches speaking one language but does not guarantee that you will hear it. 巳亥冲 shows heightened mobility but not an event. Everything connected with real decisions depends on your chart and your 大運 cycle. The principle by which a month is read together with the chart is analysed in the article on the Month Command.
One more point: the support of the month works only where there is something to support. If a project has not been started, a partial Wood group will not create it. But if you have been leading something long since February, in November it will most likely receive a resource, attention or the right person. For the general scheme of the year, see the 2027 calendar.

When does the 辛亥 month begin in 2027?
Around November 7, 2027, at the term 立冬 (Start of Winter), and it lasts until December 6. For births or events near the border you need the exact hour of the term.
What does the partial Three Harmony 亥卯未 mean?
The classical Wood group consists of three branches, 亥, 卯 and 未. In November two of them meet: the month's 亥 and the year's 未. The third, 卯, appears as a month only in March (the month 癸卯). If 卯 stands in your chart, the group is completed precisely in November.
Why is November considered the sharpest for the Snake?
Branches 巳 and 亥 form the clash 巳亥冲, the axis of Fire against Water. It shows itself most often as a change of plans, travel and unexpected turns. It is not a forecast of trouble but a heightened mobility.
What is 丁壬合 and what does it have to do with November?
The year stem 丁 and the main hidden stem of 亥, 壬, form a classical stem union. In November it is more noticeable than in other months because 壬 lies inside the month. This concerns Day Masters 壬 and 丁 in particular.
Is November suitable for big decisions?
If you check against your own chart, yes. The month broadly supports the year, but the Snake and the Tiger should leave a margin on deadlines. A forecast for a month describes a background and does not predict events. To see your own pillars, you can use the free chart.
