七殺 Seven Killings —
the most dramatic God in the chart

In the Ten Gods system (十神, Shi Shen), there's one God that frightens beginners and thrills masters. Its name is 七殺 (Qi Sha) — "Seven Killings." This is the star of conflict, pressure, extreme force, and transformation through trial. Charts with a strong, tamed 七殺 belong to people who change the world — commanders, reformers, surgeons, pioneering entrepreneurs. Charts with an untamed 七殺 are a never-ending storm.

Where does the name "Seven Killings" come from? In traditional numerology, the number 7 is associated in Chinese metaphysics with sharp objects, military affairs, and harsh change. "Killings" isn't a literal threat to life, but a metaphor for an aggressive, transforming force. 七殺 "kills" your comfort zone, your old patterns, your weakness. And if you're ready, it makes you unbreakable.

1 How 七殺 is calculated: the mechanics of the relationship

In the BaZi system, each of the Ten Gods is determined by the relationship of one element to the Day Master's element. 七殺 is the very element that controls your Day Master, but with the opposite polarity (Yin/Yang).

Here's how this works in terms of Wu Xing (the mutual control of elements): Metal chops Wood, Fire melts Metal, Water douses Fire, Earth absorbs Water, Wood pierces Earth. Whichever element "controls" your Day Master is the Control star. If the polarity is opposite, it's 七殺; if the same, it's 正官 (Direct Officer).

2 The 七殺 archetype: who these people are

Carriers of a strong 七殺 in their chart are people impossible to ignore. They walk into a room, and everyone feels it. There's something sharp, real, uncomfortable about them. They weren't built for compromise for the sake of peace. They were built to win.

In the Chinese tradition it's said: 七殺为祸，亦为功 — "七殺 can be a calamity, or it can be a great achievement." It all depends on whether it's tamed.

3 Tamed vs. Wild 七殺

This is the central concept. 七殺 in itself is neutral — it only amplifies what's already in the chart. But it must be "tamed" (制殺), or its energy destroys the carrier from within.

The classic text "Ming Li Bu Gui Ge" says: 食神制殺，威震八方 — "The Eating God tames the Killer — its might shakes the eight directions." 食神 creates an output channel for 七殺's aggressive energy: instead of destroying the carrier, it transforms into creative achievement, charisma, victories.

4 七殺 in a career: professions and roles

七殺 is the star of a sharp instrument and direct action. People with a strong 七殺 instinctively choose professions with extreme pressure, competition, or the need to make hard decisions.

• Military service, security forces, combat sports — a direct channel for the aggressive energy;
• Surgery, emergency care, combat medicine — sharp instruments plus pressure;
• Entrepreneurship in competitive industries — high risk and high reward;
• Law (criminal cases, the prosecutor's office) — fighting the system, or for it;
• Reformist politics — tearing down the outdated, unafraid of enemies;
• Crisis management, M&A, restructuring — hard decisions on a tight timeline.

5 七殺 and money

七殺 isn't directly a wealth star. Its connection to money runs through power and risk. 七殺 carriers often earn under extreme conditions: where ordinary people are afraid to go.

In a chart where 七殺 meets 偏財 (Indirect Wealth), we see the archetype of the "market predator" — a trader, a speculator, an adventurous entrepreneur who makes money off other people's crises. This is a high-risk, but high-reward formula.

If 七殺 isn't tamed, money arrives and leaves just as fast. Aggression in financial decisions, an inability to hold onto savings, compulsive bets.

6 七殺 in relationships

For women

In the traditional BaZi interpretation, for a woman, the husband star is the Control star (正官 or 七殺). 七殺 for a woman points to a vivid, intense partner, possibly domineering or unstable. This can be a passionate romance — but with risks of manipulation, inconsistency, pressure.

If 七殺 in a woman's chart is untamed, she either attracts partners showing signs of dominance/aggression, or she herself carries 七殺 qualities into the relationship (harshness, intolerance). A tamed 七殺 (through 食神 or 印) means a vivid, leader-type partner, but one who respects boundaries.

For men

For a man, 七殺 is rivals, subordinates, people who pressure or challenge him. A man with a strong 七殺 often provokes rivalry himself — that's his way of growing. In relationships he can be domineering, demanding, intense.

7 七殺 and health

七殺 is the star of the sharp, the cutting, the traumatic. In health, it correlates with:

• Surgical procedures — especially during activation periods;
• Injuries, fractures, cuts — accidents under a "wild" 七殺;
• Circulatory system illness — pressure, inflammation;
• Neurological strain — chronic residence in "fight" mode;
• Stress-driven conditions: hypertension, stomach ulcers, nerve-related heart arrhythmias.

8 七殺 and 魁罡: double power

The combination of 七殺 with the special structure 魁罡 Kui Gang (四柱 戊戌, 庚戌, 庚辰, 壬辰) deserves special attention. People with Kui Gang in their chart already carry a harsh, uncompromising leadership archetype. Add a strong 七殺 to that, and you get the chart of someone capable of historic achievement. Or of catastrophic self-destruction — without taming.

The classical Ziping school calls such charts "the charts of extraordinary people" — with one caveat: without control, greatness turns into tyranny.

When your luck decade (大運 Da Yun) or your current year (流年 Liu Nian) carries the 七殺 stem/branch, this is a critical period of transformation. What happens:

• External challenges intensify: competitors get more active, your boss piles on pressure, the system pushes back;
• Health needs attention: a risk of injuries, operations, stress states;
• Relationships bring drama: conflict, breakups, toxic attractions;
• A career breakthrough is possible — but only if 七殺 is tamed by 食神 or 印 in your chart;
• If untamed, this is a period of "destruction before building."
