Among the classical lists, a harm 害 (hài) is the least noticeable of the "bad" links. A clash 冲 is heard at once, a punishment 刑 wears you out over years, a destruction 破 quietly eats away agreements. And a harm? A harm works almost invisibly: two people seem to get on well, yet something regularly keeps them from being close, and there appears to be no reason. In the pair of the Rabbit 卯 and the Dragon 辰 exactly this link is present: 卯辰 stands in the list of the Six Harms 六害 (liù hài).
At the same time they have something strong in common: both branches belong to spring. The three spring months 寅, 卯 and 辰 carry one season, and their classical union is called the Directional Combination 三會 (sān huì), the "seasonal gathering" 寅卯辰. With two branches out of three it is incomplete: the Tiger 寅 is missing. The result is a pair given a shared seasonal homeland, with a small splinter lying between them.
To see how these two facts fit into one union, we need to go through them in turn. A caveat in advance: everything said concerns year signs, one branch out of eight. It is a general outline, not a verdict.
1 What a seasonal gathering 三會 is
Branches divide by season. 寅, 卯, 辰 are spring: beginning, middle and end. 巳, 午, 未 are summer. 申, 酉, 戌 are autumn. 亥, 子, 丑 are winter. Each triple forms a Directional Combination 三會 and is regarded as stronger than a Three Harmony 三合 in its shared element: when all three branches gather in a chart or in time, the corresponding element (for spring, Wood) becomes powerful.
For our pair: the Rabbit 卯 is the center of spring, the peak of Wood. The Dragon 辰 is the end of spring, the transition to summer. The Tiger 寅 is the beginning. Without the Tiger the gathering is incomplete, but the two remaining branches still share one climate: both come from spring, and at the base of both are damp warmth and growth. That is enough for a "sense of kinship" between them: people with these signs often say it is easy to talk to each other and little needs explaining.
2 The Dragon as a storehouse
Now more about the Dragon. Inside 辰 are three stems: 戊 (wù, main, Yang Earth), 乙 (yǐ, Yin Wood) and 癸 (guǐ, Yin Water). This is damp, dense Earth with a remainder of Wood energy and with water. The classics call 辰 the "storehouse of Water" and "residual Wood". 乙 lives in it, which is the Rabbit's own stem. So the Dragon already contains a particle of the Rabbit, as the end of spring contains the remainder of its middle.
In life this is felt as recognition. The Rabbit sees something of its own in the Dragon, and the Dragon recognizes in the Rabbit something that is in him too, but deeper and under a layer of larger qualities. Such couples often say: "we understand each other well".
| What we compare | Rabbit 卯 | Dragon 辰 |
|---|---|---|
| Branch element | Yin Wood | Yang Earth (damp) |
| Hidden stems | 乙 | 戊, 乙, 癸 |
| Season | mid-spring | late spring |
| Style | tact, flexibility, taste | scale, will, ambition |
| Weak spot | avoids conflict | presses and does not notice |
3 Wood over Earth
In the five-element cycle Wood controls Earth: 卯 (Wood) over 辰 (Earth). Formally the Rabbit "controls" the Dragon. But the situation is unlike an axe and a tree: Wood controls Earth the way roots hold soil, not the way a knife cuts meat. Here the Earth is damp, soft and nourishing, and Wood grows in it. Roots strengthen the soil, and the soil holds the roots.
The result can be described like this: the Rabbit influences the Dragon subtly, and the Dragon gives the Rabbit footing. If the couple understands its roles, it is a strong combination. If the Rabbit begins to "undermine" the Dragon with criticism, or the Dragon "buries" the Rabbit under demands, the roots go into barren soil.
4 The harm 害: what it is and how it shows
Now the splinter. The Six Harms 六害 are classically derived from combinations and clashes: one branch "harms" another by clashing with its ally. The Rabbit's ally is the Dog (卯戌合), and the Dragon clashes with the Dog (辰戌冲). The Dragon's ally is the Rooster (辰酉合), and the Rabbit clashes with the Rooster (卯酉冲). Each of the two, without wanting to, interferes with the partner in the partner's natural alliance. The practical outcome: between the signs there is an invisible friction that prevents full trust.
In the life of the couple this looks like various "small hindrances":
- one tells and the other hears it differently;
- you agreed, but it was carried out not quite that way;
- nobody seems to be at fault, but a residue remains;
- any important matter takes a little more effort than expected.
These are not dramatic scenes but a constant light noise. Because of such noise the harm is called "quiet wearing down of trust". At the same time 害 is weaker than a clash or a punishment and is easily compensated by other factors: a strong 合, a shared undertaking, good communication. If the charts hold no other negative links, a pair with a harm lives normally.
5 How to tell a harm from ordinary fatigue
If you are a Rabbit and a Dragon and recognized yourselves in the description, it helps to tell the action of a harm from simple tiredness or household problems. The first sign: the hindrance appears out of nowhere. There is no clear reason for offense, but after a conversation you feel you were not understood. The second: it repeats on the same themes (money, plans, division of time) regardless of mood. The third: after it is sorted out, things do not get better for long; a week later the same situation returns in different wrapping.
If all three signs are present, it makes sense to work not on the content of the arguments but on the way of communicating: written agreements, retelling what was heard, clear deadlines. Many practitioners describe a harm as a link "through an intermediary": what should pass directly goes through someone or something and is distorted. The intermediary can be another person, a messenger app, a vague formulation. The shorter and more direct the channel, the weaker the harm.
6 Love and marriage
In romance the Rabbit and the Dragon look lovely: the Dragon is decisive, the Rabbit soft and sensitive. The Dragon loves scale: big plans, fine gestures, public life. The Rabbit loves comfort, intimacy, mood. One does not contradict the other if the balance is kept: the Dragon takes the "outer stage", the Rabbit runs the "inner house".
The main difficulty is pride. The Dragon dislikes being contradicted, and the Rabbit dislikes contradicting head-on, so its disagreement comes out sideways: in hints, prolonged silence, small passive pricks. The Dragon does not understand what is wrong and feels guilty without fault. That is where the harm acts: "something is wrong, it is unclear what".
A simple practice that works: agree on marker words. For example "I need to discuss" means a serious conversation without offense. "I need to think" means "I am not ready to talk yet, but I will come back to it within the day". Such words let the Rabbit signal tension without sharpening it, and let the Dragon stop guessing.
7 Friendship and family
In friendship the pair looks very organic: the Dragon pulls the Rabbit out of its shell, the Rabbit softens the Dragon. They often share tastes in art, nature and food. The friendship stands on mutual respect for each other's scale: the Dragon respects sensitivity, the Rabbit respects sweep.
In a family where the parent is a Dragon and the child a Rabbit, the child may feel the pressure of expectations and never speak of it. A Rabbit parent with a Dragon child may struggle precisely over tempo: the child wants more and at once, and the parent tends to brake. It helps both to state expectations aloud instead of hoping they are guessed.
Which side outweighs in your pair
A shared season and a harm in the same pair read differently depending on the other pillars. A Couple Compatibility Reading compares the eight characters of both partners and shows which side wins in yours.

Professionally, Rabbit and Dragon form a strong pair where both an idea and execution are needed. The Dragon formulates the goal and pulls forward, the Rabbit builds relations and polishes the details. It goes well in projects tied to creativity, education, consulting, public or family business.
A typical problem is vagueness about rights and duties. The Dragon thinks he is in charge, the Rabbit thinks her opinion is taken into account, and in reality neither has been said aloud. Write down the roles and the areas of decision: what each decides alone and what only together.
The second problem is the reaction to criticism. The Dragon finds it hard to hear remarks, the Rabbit finds it hard to phrase them. Advice: express criticism through questions rather than judgments. "What do you think will happen if the client refuses?" works better than "you did not think it through".
9 Typical conflicts and how to defuse them
"You didn't hear me again"
This is the main symptom of a harm. Paraphrasing helps: after an important conversation each retells the agreement in their own words. Two minutes, and half the misunderstandings disappear.
"You are pressing"
The Dragon does not notice the force of his pressure. The Rabbit does not name it aloud. The solution is a conventional signal, for example the word "pause", which the Rabbit can say to stop a conversation without accusations.
"You dodge the answer"
The Dragon takes the Rabbit's softness for evasion. In fact the Rabbit is collecting her thoughts. It helps the Dragon to wait until evening or morning and not to demand an immediate answer.
10 Fire between them: the role of 2027
2027 is 丁未 (dīng-wèi), the Fire Goat, beginning with 立春 (lì chūn) around February 4. For the Rabbit the backdrop is supportive: 卯 and 未 form a half of the Wood Three Harmony 亥卯未 (the Pig 亥 is missing). For the Dragon the branch 未 forms no direct link.
What is interesting is something else. The year stem 丁 and the hot branch 未 bring a lot of Fire into the year. And Fire stands in the cycle between Wood and Earth: Wood produces Fire, Fire produces Earth. When two elements are in a controlling relation (Wood over Earth), the element between them is called 通關 (tōng guān), "passing through the gate". It removes friction: instead of a blow, Wood gives its strength to Fire, and Fire feeds Earth. So in 2027 a "bridge" appears for the Rabbit and Dragon pair, on which the Wood-Earth tension does not build up but passes through warmth.
Even so, measure is needed. If there is too much Fire, it dries out Wood and scorches damp Earth. So what matters for the pair is not the idea that "the bridge is built" but a sense of proportion: do not overload the calendar, do not forget rest, watch the tone. This is a general backdrop, not a prediction of events, and it will touch your pair depending on the charts.
Now the months of 2027 (boundaries within one day). The missing Tiger arrives in the month 壬寅, February 4 to March 5: in those weeks the seasonal gathering 寅卯辰 assembles fully for the pair, and the shared "spring" mood sounds loudest. The next two spring months are more complex. In 癸卯 (March 6 to April 4) the Rabbit's branch repeats, and the harm 卯辰 becomes more noticeable for the Dragon. In 甲辰 (April 5 to May 5) the Dragon's branch repeats: 辰辰 is among the self-punishments 自刑, and the Rabbit again finds itself paired with 辰. In spring, then, it is useful to retell agreements to each other more often.
In autumn the interests of the pair diverge. The month 己酉 (September 8 to October 7) is a combination 辰酉合 for the Dragon and a clash 卯酉冲 for the Rabbit. The month 庚戌 (October 8 to November 6) is its mirror: it gives the Rabbit the combination 卯戌合 and the Dragon the clash 辰戌冲. So in September and October one of the two is in form while the other is irritated, and exactly the mechanics of the harm described above are visible in the calendar. For the rest: the Dragon is helped by 戊申 (August 8 to September 7) and 壬子 (December 7 to January 5) as parts of the Water triangle 申子辰, while 癸丑 (January 6 to February 3, 2028) gives it the destruction 辰丑破. The Rabbit is calmer in 丁未 (July 7 to August 7) and 辛亥 (November 7 to December 6), where its Wood triangle assembles, and has a harder time in 丙午 (June 6 to July 6, 卯午破) and 壬子 (the punishment 子卯刑). All of this is backdrop, not a schedule of events.
11 Why the year sign is only the top layer
Rabbit and Dragon by year are two branches of eight; the other six are yours alone. These are the five checks made on full charts.
- The Day Master 日主 (rì zhǔ). If one is a Wood stem and the other Earth, the relation is control, but Fire and Earth means feeding. The relation of Day Masters is often more important than the year branches.
- The day branches, the Spouse Palaces 夫妻宮. A day-branch 卯辰 would repeat the harm right in the home, while a day combination with another branch could overlay it.
- Elemental balance. If your chart needs Earth, the damp Dragon becomes a gift. If Earth is in excess, it does not.
- Links between all pillars. A harm is easily overridden by 合 but intensified by a clash. For example the Dragon clashes with the Dog 戌 (辰戌冲), and the Rabbit with the Rooster 酉 (卯酉冲).
- Luck Pillars 大運 (dà yùn): whether your rises and falls coincide.
There is no compatibility percentage. There is a map: where the pair has supports and where it is thin.
An honest caveat. The harm between 卯 and 辰 is mild and is cured by attention. There is no reason either to fear this combination or to consider it automatically ideal because of the shared spring. Decisions about marriage or a shared business are better made from two full charts. For a first comparison of two dates there is the compatibility tool, and the method is described in the five layers of BaZi compatibility.

12 Frequently asked questions
Are Rabbit and Dragon compatible?
Between 卯 (mǎo) and 辰 (chén) there is a mild harm 六害, but both branches belong to the spring season 寅卯辰 (without the Tiger the set is incomplete). By element Wood controls Earth, although the Dragon's Earth is damp and nourishing. The pair is often warm, with a light undercurrent of things unsaid. The result depends on the full charts.
How dangerous is the harm 害 between Rabbit and Dragon?
Among unfavorable links it is one of the mildest. It shows as quiet friction and misunderstanding rather than open conflict. A good combination 合 in other pillars, direct talk and double-checking agreements compensate for it.
What is the seasonal combination 寅卯辰?
It is the joining of the three spring branches, which in full strength amplifies the Wood element. The Rabbit and the Dragon hold two of the three; the Tiger 寅 is missing, so the set is incomplete, yet the pair has a shared climate and a sense of kinship.
How do Rabbit and Dragon go through 2027?
The Rabbit gets the half Wood triangle 亥卯未 with the Goat 未, while the Dragon forms no direct link with 未. The Fire of the year (丁) stands between Wood and Earth and can ease the tension between them if used in measure. It is a general backdrop, not a forecast of events.
Can a pair be judged by the year sign?
Only in general terms. A reliable conclusion needs the Day Masters, Spouse Palaces, elemental balance, links between all pillars and both partners' Luck Pillars.
