How to Read Your Partner from the Chart

1. On the stems (openly) — the relationship is "transparent," the spouse is socially active.
2. In the hidden stems of the branches — the relationship is "hidden," either the spouse isn't visible to society, or arrives from an unexpected place.
3. Only in the Day Branch — the strongest pattern, the spouse is "right at the focus of life."
4. Not visible at all — hard to find a spouse, a late marriage, or a monastic path.

What if there are many spouse stars?

If a man's chart has a lot of Wealth (wives) or a woman's has a lot of Officer (husbands) — that's a "multiple marriage" pattern. Possible outcomes:

• Several official marriages (divorces and remarriages).
• Parallel relationships (secret ones, alongside a spouse).
• Professions with many partners (actors, musicians, salespeople).
• Many romances without marriage.

What if there's no spouse star at all?

If Wealth is completely absent in a man's chart (or Officer in a woman's), that's a "solitary chart." It doesn't mean "will never marry," but it does point to:

3 When marriage happens — Tao Hua, Hong Luan, Tian Xi

This is the most practical question: "when will I get married?" BaZi has several "marriage indicators" (神煞, Shen Sha) that signal a wedding is approaching.

桃花 (táo huā — "peach blossom") Tao Hua — Peach Blossom

"Peach Blossom" is the main star of love. It's the branch that activates romance. Tao Hua is determined by your birth year:

When Tao Hua arrives in a Luck Pillar or annual pillar, that's a "year of romance." A high chance of meeting someone, being drawn in, falling in love. It doesn't always end in marriage — sometimes it's just a vivid romance.

紅鸞 (hóng luán — "red phoenix") Hong Luan — the Scarlet Bird

This is the strongest "marriage" Shen Sha. When Hong Luan activates through a Luck Pillar or annual pillar, that's a "wedding year." It's determined by birth year, the formula is more complex (you need a calculator), but the effect is clear.

天喜 (tiān xǐ — "heavenly joy") Tian Xi — Heavenly Joy

The "star of happy events." Activation in a Luck Pillar or annual pillar brings a wedding, the birth of a child, an engagement. It often works alongside Hong Luan.

Activation of the Day Branch

The most reliable signal is when a Luck Pillar or annual pillar brings a branch that forms a Liu He or San He with the Day Branch. That's an "activation of the spouse palace." If Tao Hua or Hong Luan are working alongside it, marriage is nearly guaranteed.

4 Signs of a happy marriage

Not all marriages are equal. The chart shows exactly what kind awaits you. Signs of a harmonious marriage:

• The Day Master and the spouse star are in the right balance — neither dominates nor is dominated.
• The Luck Pillar you marry in has an active Yong Shen — those years are favorable.

5 Signs of a difficult marriage

6 Multiple marriages in the chart — how to read them

This is a sensitive topic, but an important one. In BaZi, the signs of "several marriages" are clearly visible. Recognizing them isn't a "sentence" — it's a chance to prepare.

Signs of multiplicity

• For a man: multiple Wealth stars (Direct + Indirect Wealth) on the stems. Especially if they're "healthy" and active in a Luck Pillar.
• For a woman: multiple Officer stars (Direct Officer + Indirect Officer, 七殺 (qī shā — "seven killings") Qi Sha). Especially if Qi Sha dominates — that points to "unofficial" relationships or unconventional marriages.
• A clash on the Day Branch in mid-life: the first marriage falls apart, then a second follows.
• A spouse star in the Day Branch plus another on a different pillar: "one spouse close by, another somewhere else."

How to work with this

1. Accept the reality of the chart. Don't try to "hold on" to a marriage the chart shows as temporary.
2. Choose your first partner deliberately. If the chart shows 2-3 marriages, the first is often a "learning" one — don't pour your entire life into it until retirement.
3. Know your "transition years." When a clash on the Day Branch arrives, prepare for change.

7 Compatibility of two charts

This is perhaps the most popular service BaZi masters offer. The compatibility of two people is determined by overlaying their charts across several levels.

Level 1: the Day Master

The most surface-level — but foundational — layer. Your partner's Day Master should be in a harmonious relationship with your own:

• Ideal — they produce you, or they control something you need controlled. For example, Jia (Wood) + Gui (Water) — Water nourishes Wood.
• Good — same-sex elements (Jia + Jia) are like "siblings," working as equals.
• Difficult — they chop you, or you chop them. For example, Jia (Wood) + Geng (Metal) — Metal chops Wood. Possible leadership conflicts.

Level 2: the Day Branch (spouse palace)

This is the key level. Ideally, the two people's Day Branches form a Liu He. For example, he has Zi, she has Chou — a Zi-Chou Liu He. This is "a marriage of palaces."

It's good if the Day Branches belong to the same San He. For example, he has Shen, she has Chen — both within Shen-Zi-Chen.

It's bad if the Day Branches form a clash or a punishment. That's a "built-in conflict" between them.

Level 3: Yong Shen and the elements

A partner brings the element you need. If they're strong Fire and you need Fire, that's excellent. If they're Metal, and Metal harms you, it will be difficult.

Level 4: helpful stars

It's good when a partner's chart has stars that support your Day Branch. Especially valuable are: Tian Yi (天乙, the noble person), Tian Xi (天喜, happiness), Yue De (月德, virtue).

8 Divorce — a clash on the spouse palace

Divorce in a chart is always a clash or a punishment on the Day Branch. There's no such thing as a divorce "out of nowhere" — it's always visible in the chart.

Types of "divorce" patterns

• A native clash on the Day Branch — a high risk of divorce at some point in life. Especially if the "spouse stars" are also multiple or unhealthy.
• A clash on the Day Branch in a Luck Pillar — a specific decade when it can happen. The exact scenario depends on other factors.
• A clash on the Day Branch in an annual pillar — a specific activation year. Events are often sudden.
• A punishment on the Day Branch — a hidden erosion of the marriage. Divorce arrives after a long, quiet conflict.
