1 The partner star: how to find it in your chart

The first step is identifying which of the Ten Gods (十神, shí shén) is your partner star. This depends on your sex:

正官 (zhèng guān — the "Direct Officer") = the lawful husband.
七殺 (qī shā — "seven killings") = a vivid, unconventional partner.
Both belong to the Control group (official and unofficial).

正財 (zhèng cái — "Direct Wealth") = the official wife.
偏財 (piān cái — "Indirect Wealth") = an unofficial or short-lived relationship.
Both belong to the Wealth group.

If your partner star is present in the natal chart, it's a good sign for relationships. If it's absent, that doesn't mean "never" — it means "through outside years," when that star "arrives" from outside the chart.

2 桃花 Táo Huā: the star of romantic magnetism

桃花 (táo huā — "peach blossom") is the most famous "romance star" in Chinese astrology. It isn't directly a partner star — it's a star of attraction, charisma, sexual magnetism, and a wide social circle. Wherever 桃花 sits, there's plenty of attention from those around you.

How to find your 桃花: it is taken from a branch — your Year branch (or Day branch), not the Day Master stem:

When the 桃花 year arrives in your 大運 or 流年, expect a sharp rise in social activity, meeting new people, romantic opportunities.

思 桃花 in the Hour Pillar: if your 桃花 sits in the Hour Pillar, your romantic appeal unfolds later in life. In the Day Pillar, your charisma is constant. In the Month Pillar, it's tied to your professional environment.

3 紅鸞 Hóng Luán and 天喜 Tiān Xǐ: annual triggers

紅鸞 (hóng luán — the "Red Phoenix") is the star that activates romance in a specific year. When 紅鸞 is active, expect years of romantic events: meeting someone, getting engaged, getting married.

天喜 (tiān xǐ — "heavenly joy") is its "mirror." Where 紅鸞 marks romantic interest, 天喜 marks joyful events more broadly (including weddings and the birth of children).

How to find them: the rule is simple. 紅鸞 is counted backward from your birth-year branch — start at 卯 (Rabbit) for a 子 (Rat) year and step counter-clockwise through the branches (子→卯, 丑→寅, 寅→丑, 卯→子, and so on). 天喜 always sits on the branch directly opposite 紅鸞 (its 沖), so once you know one you know the other.

4 大運 Luck Pillars: the main key to "when"

For a serious forecast of when you'll meet a partner, 大運 (dà yùn — "Luck Pillars," the 10-year periods) matters more than the annual stars. It's the decade that determines whether the partner star is active at all.

For women: the 正官 and 七殺 decades

If the current decade brings 正官 (zhèng guān) or 七殺 (qī shā), it's a "partner period." Even if this star is weak in the natal chart, the decade "switches it on." It's during periods like this that serious meetings and marriages most often happen.

For men: the 正財 and 偏財 decades

The same logic: a 正財 (zhèng cái) or 偏財 (piān cái) decade is a man's "woman/wife period." Meetings that happen during such decades often lead to official relationships.

☯ The rule of double activation: the "loudest" romantic events happen when the decade AND the year both carry partner signs at the same time. For example, a woman in a 正官 decade, in a 流年 (liú nián — "current year") that also carries a 正官-compatible sign — that's a "double opening" of the romance funnel.
